Incheon and west-coast sheds share summer humidity above 80% with dust from unpaved access roads. Switches rated for office ceilings fail when mounted above hot ASIC exhaust.
What We Look For On-Site
- Metal case with bottom ventilation, not plastic shelf units
- Operating temperature rated to at least 50°C ambient
- Managed layer-2 with VLAN support — unmanaged hubs are false economy
- Redundant power inputs when PDUs allow separate feeds
Models We Document, Not Resell
We list two or three SKUs per visit that fit the port map, then let clients buy from their preferred vendor. Recent reports cited TP-Link TL-SG3428, MikroTik CRS326, and Cisco CBS350 variants depending on budget and staff CLI comfort.
Mounting Height
Keep switch intake below worker exhaust plumes. Photo documentation from a Siheung visit showed a switch mounted 40 cm above ASIC outlets — intake air measured 46°C while floor ambient was 32°C. Relocated to rack side at intake height, port temperatures dropped 9°C.
Maintenance Rhythm
Blow dust quarterly on coastal sites. We add a sticker schedule to reports so landlords see maintenance intent during inspections.
